Dear Prime Minister, I write to you as my Prime Minister on a matter that has many of my Muslim, Jewish and secular friends very apprehensive.
I co-lead the Moslem Jewish Dialogue in Toronto. Most of my Muslim friends in the Dialogue fear Sharia blasphemy laws. They and I are afraid of certain Islamic religious extremists here in Toronto who would gain protection from this motion for their abuse of religious rights and human freedoms for women, gays, and both Muslims and non-Muslims. Many imams deserve our respect and support. But three in the GTA preach hatred, teach hatred, and perform mut'ah marriage. When the Muslims in our Dialogue see you visit and have your picture taken with those particular radical imams, they conclude that radicalism is accepted and that Canada supports Sharia law here. When the Muslims in our Dialogue see Premier Kathleen Wynne wearing a niqab and rendered silent "out of respect" at a Muslim prayer service, they conclude that free speech is for men only and that Canada supports Sharia law here. Those few radical imams supported by the Muslim Brotherhood and the Government of Iran pose the greatest, fearsome and intolerant threats that most imams and all secular Muslims face today in Canada. I and others in the Dialogue strongly urge you to vote to rescind Petition E-411 and defeat motion M-103, both of which are antithetical to the Canadian values we cherish. Like all religious groups, Muslims are already protected under our Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Criminal Law. They do not need a separate law which is supported by groups that have close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and in essence are trying to put in place a form of Sharia blasphemy law. Please don't let this happen to our beloved democracy where freedom of speech is a cherished value.
