Torpedoing "Islamophobia"

This Gates of Vienna article from 2013, called Torpedoing Islamophobia,  concerns a discussion on Islamophobia held by the Tolerance and Non-Discrimination Department of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE /ODIHR). Gates of Vienna reports on the grave concerns that the International Civil Liberties Alliance (ICLA) had with a document on “Addressing Islamophobia through Education” published jointly by ODIHR, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO in 2011. Particularly noteworthy are the comments of Major Stephen Coughlin, who shows how use of the term will not be used to protect Muslims from discrimination, but to bully those who criticize Islam. This is precisely why C3RF is concerned about the use of the term “Islamophobia” in Motion M-103.
